About the Author
Bob Yandian, pastor of Grace Fellowship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has an anointing and extensive teaching background that enables him to convey the uncompromised Word of God with an everyday practical clarity. Primarily, Bob ministers to students of the Word--fellow full-time ministers, congregational members, and Bible school students.A graduate of Trinity Bible College, Bob studied under its director and founder, Charles Duncombe, a contemporary and companion of Smith Wigglesworth. Bob also studied Greek at Southwestern College in Oklahoma City.In 1972 Bob began teaching regularly at Grace Fellowship where he was a founding member. In 1973 he began working for Kenneth Hagin Ministries as Tape Production Manager then, in 1977, for Rhema Bible Training Center as a teacher. Later he became Dean of Instructors. In 1980 he began pastoring Grace Fellowship.Bob has taught and ministered throughout the United States and Canada, in South Africa, Guatemala, and the Philippines. He has spoken at numerous Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International meetings; the Greater Pittsburgh Charismatic Conference; Bill Basansky's 1981, 1982, and 1983 jubilees; Salt Lake Institute of Religion (Mormon); and hosted the Local Church Seminar at Grace Fellowship.

About the Author

Albert M. Craig is the Harvard-Yenching Research Professor of History Emeritus at Harvard University, where he has taught since 1959. A graduate of Northwestern University, he received his Ph.D. at Harvard University. He has studied at Strasbourg University and at Kyoto, Keio, and Tokyo universities in Japan. He is the author of Choshu in the Meiji Restoration  (1961), The Heritage of Japanese Civilization (2011), and, with others, of East Asia , Tradition and Transformation (1989). He is the editor of Japan , A Comparative View (1973) and co-editor of Personality in Japanese History (1970), Civilization and

Enlightnment: the Early Thought of Fukuzawa Yukichi  (2009). He was the director of the Harvard-Yenching Institute. He has also been a visiting professor at Kyoto and Tokyo universities. He has received Guggenheim, Fulbright, and Japan Foundation Fellowships. In 1988 he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by the Japanese government.

 

William A. Graham is Albertson Professor of Middle Eastern Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and O’Brian Professor of Divinity and Dean in the Faculty of Divinity at Harvard University, where he has taught for thirty-four years. He has directed the Center for Middle Eastern Studies and chaired the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, the Committee on the Study of Religion, and the Core Curriculum Committee on Foreign Cultures. He received his BA in Comparative Literature from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, an A.M. and Ph.D. in History of Religion from Harvard, and studied also in Göttingen, Tübingen, Lebanon, and London. He is former chair of the Council on Graduate Studies in Religion (U.S. and Canada). In 2000 he received the quinquennial Award for Excellence in Research in Islamic History and Culture from the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference. He has held John Simon Guggenheim and Alexander von Humboldt research fellowships and is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Among his publications are Beyond the Written Word: Oral Aspects of Scripture in the History of Religion (1987); Divine Word and Prophetic Word in Early Islam (1977—ACLS History of Religions Prize, 1978); and Three Faiths, One God (co-authored, 2003).

 

Donald Kagan is Sterling Professor of History and Classics at Yale University, where he has taught since 1969. He received the A.B. degree in history from Brooklyn College, the M.A. in classics from Brown University, and the Ph.D. in history from Ohio State University. During 1958—1959 he studied at the American School of Classical Studies as a Fulbright Scholar. He has received three awards for undergraduate teaching at Cornell and Yale. He is the author of a history of Greek political thought, The Great Dialogue (1965); a four-volume history of the Peloponnesian war, The Origins of the Peloponnesian War (1969); The Archidamian War (1974); The Peace of Nicias and the Sicilian Expedition (1981); The Fall of the Athenian Empire (1987); a biography of Pericles, Pericles of Athens and the Birth of Democracy (1991); On the Origins of War (1995); and The Peloponnesian War (2003). He is coauthor, with Frederick W. Kagan, of While America Sleeps (2000). With Brian Tierney and L. Pearce Williams, he is the editor of Great Issues in Western Civilization, a collection of readings. He was awarded the National Humanities Medal for 2002 and was chosen by the National Endowment for the Humanities to deliver the Jefferson Lecture in 2004.

 

Steven Ozment is McLean Professor of Ancient and Modern History at Harvard University. He has taught Western Civilization at Yale, Stanford, and Harvard. He is the author of eleven books. The Age of Reform, 1250–1550 (1980) won the Schaff Prize and was nominated for the 1981 National Book Award. Five of his books have been selections of the History Book Club: Magdalena and Balthasar: An Intimate Portrait of Life in Sixteenth Century Europe (1986), Three Behaim Boys: Growing Up in Early Modern Germany (1990), Protestants: The Birth of A Revolution (1992), The Burgermeister’s Daughter: Scandal in a Sixteenth Century German Town (1996), and Flesh and Spirit: Private Life in Early Modern Germany (1999). His most recent publications are Ancestors: The Loving Family of Old Europe (2001), A Mighty Fortress: A New History of the German People (2004), and “Why We Study Western Civ,” The Public Interest 158 (2005).

 

Frank M. Turner is John Hay Whitney Professor of History at Yale University and Director of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University, where he served as University Provost from 1988 to 1992. He received his B.A. degree at the College of William and Mary and his Ph.D. from Yale. He has received the Yale College Award for Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching. He has directed a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute. His scholarly research has received the support of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Guggenheim Foundation and the Woodrow Wilson Center. He is the author of Between Science and Religion: The Reaction to Scientific Naturalism in Late Victorian England (1974), The Greek Heritage in Victorian Britain  (1981), which received the British Council Prize of the Conference on British Studies and the Yale Press Governors Award,  Contesting Cultural Authority: Essays in Victorian Intellectual Life  (1993), and  John Henry Newman: The Challenge to Evangelical Religion  (2002). He has also contributed numerous articles to journals and has served on the editorial advisory boards of The Journal of Modern History, Isis, and Victorian Studies. He edited The Idea of a University by John Henry Newman (1996), Reflections on the Revolution in France by Edmund Burke (2003), and Apologia Pro Vita Sua and Six Sermons by John Henry Newman (2008). Between l996 and 2006 he served as a Trustee of Connecticut College and between 2004 and 2008 as a member of the Connecticut Humanities Council. In 2003, Professor Turner was appointed Director of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University.

I liked it well enough

I enjoyed this book through the course I took. It's structured well, but is sometimes vague. It just covers so much content and often things aren't explained fully so you have to read between the lines. It's best if you already have a pretty good grasp of the topic being discussed but if you use it along with the other material (power points and chapter reviews) that your professor should have, you'll be fine. You probably don't have much of a choice anyway though if your professor uses the book. Good luck.

WARNING!! Stay away from ANY class that uses this book! It is the most disorganized mess that will leave you frustrated

This is one of the worst books ever written! I find it hard to believe they keep asking the same people to author World history! It is clearly not written with the student in mind! If you are taking a class with this book- DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS! If your professor/teacher participates in My History Lab, it might be helpful.

Great Condition/ Low price

So I purchased this book for under seven dollars (including the shipping)and I was expecting a torn and freyed book seeing that it was being sold for such a low price. Though to my surprise the book had little tearing (as far as the cover goes) and the pages where in great condition! If this company had sold the other books I needed, I would've gladly purchased them. For instance, I ended up paying seventy-nine dollars for a book that barely had a cover and that I didn't need for as long as I do the history book I purchased. For future books I'll need, I'll be sure to check these guys out first before going to the book store.

About the Author
A founding member of the Los Angeles Oriental Artists Group, Tyrus Wong developed a personal artistic sensibility that joined his formal western art-school training with traditional Asian aesthetics. During the Great Depression, Tyrus participated in the WPA’s Federal Art Project and exhibited his work in a 1932 group exhibition at the Chicago Art Institute that also featured Pablo Picasso. His creativity and drive helped shape the artistic, bohemian life of Los Angeles during the 1930s.

From 1942 to 1968, Tyrus worked at Warner Bros as a production illustrator, drawing set designs and storyboards for many award-winning live-action feature films, including Rebel Without a Cause, Calamity Jane, Harper, Ice Palace, Around the World in Eighty Days, and The Wild Bunch.

On top of his fine art and illustration work for movies, scarves, pottery, and greeting cards, Tyrus channeled his talent into designing and hand-building elaborate multicolored kites, some more than 100 feet long, which he still regularly flies on the beaches of Santa Monica with his friends and family. In 2001, Tyrus was honored as a Disney Legend for his contributions to Bambi, and in 2006, he won an Annie Award (Association Internationale du film d’Animation) for lifelong achievement. There have been solo exhibitions of Tyrus’s work at the Chinese American Museum and the Museum of California Design.

After 102 years... Tyrus Wong's day has arrived!

This text, reflecting the exhibit of the same name hosted at the Walt Disney Family Museum at the Presidio of San Francisco, is long overdue.

However, the wait was worth it. The career of Chinese-American artist Tyrus Wong is the stuff of legends and it's about time for his story to be told.

For those who are unable to visit the museum's exhibition in person, this book stands on its own as an unprecedented tribute to a lifetime of magnificent storytelling through the unique artistry of Tyrus Wong. Whether working at the Walt Disney Studio on concept design for the dwarfs of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937)... or in breathing life into the unexpected character of "the forest" in "Bambi" (1942)... or in mastering three decades of art design for Warner Bros., the production art of Tyrus Wong will be admired long after all of us have exited the stage. It is nothing short of magnificent. Hold a mirror up to his art and the result is this very book.

The same can be said for the life of this exceptional artist. After leaving his mother and his sister behind in China when he was only nine years of age and traveling to the United States with his father, Tyrus Wong carved a future for himself and his family in this new land that few would have imagined to be possible.

This book tells the story of the kind, generous, compassionate and talented man who created his own opportunity in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. In overcoming economic hardship, racial prejudice and entrenched bigotry with his chosen profession, Tyrus Wong found those with whom he could be free to express his gift through the unique art forms that are reflected in this book.

Tyrus and Art History

This is a high quality, beautifully illustrated book on the history of one of the best west coast artists of the twentieth century. The book describes Wong's fascinating life from a young Chinese immigrant, to a struggling artist, to a top artist working with Walt Disney Co. and other major studios. The book includes examples of his paintings, sculptures, works on paper, toys, and his beloved kites. The quality of the photography in the book is outstanding.

First rate book for a first rate artist. If you love Bambi and have even the slightest interest in art of books this is the book for you, it's not about Bambi itself but the artist who cemented the look of the film. A genius.

About the Author
Wasim Asghar is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas (PE), Florida (PE) and Ontario (P. Eng) with consulting experience in design, commissioning and plant engineering for leading clients in Energy, Mining and Infrastructure. He holds Bachelors of Engineering – Electrical with distinction from McMaster University (2010) and Master of Engineering – Power Systems from University of Toronto (2013) which was completed with full-time work. In 2014, he undertook a two year international assignment for a major project in Florida and also decided to pursue PE Licensure in United States. The road to licensure was challenging primarily because of a lack of useful study material for FE and PE exams. Wasim passed both exams in first attempts (FE in October 2014 and PE in April 2015). The lessons learned during exam preparation process inspired him to write this book which is designed to help aspiring professional engineers better prepare for the latest CBT format of FE Electrical and Computer Engineering Exam.

Questions are close to the real exam.

This book is an excellent source of study for the Electrical FE exam. Questions are very close to the real exam. The Author did an exceptional job providing this type of questions. I have no doubt that sooner this book as well as the Study Guide will become the main source of study for the Electrical FE exam. I passed the exam on the first try after 15 years of being out of College.

I will recommend anyone looking to pass the FE exam test to use this review book as a resource. The questions are very relevant to the topics being tested on the test. The author did a very good job in detailing the solutions so that you can see how the answers are gotten.

Helpful and insightful

This practice book was helpful and insightful. It's a good tool to help prepare for the exam. Also, the other thing about this book is that if you have a question, email the author and he'll get back to you with a full explanation within 24 hours. I took the exam on 12/12 (Monday) and found out that I passed on 12/21 (Wednesday). Let me just say that the actual exam is in between the Lindeburg and this practice exam. The test is no way as easy as this book but some concepts from this book are seen on the exam. It's also worth noting, that the NCEES practice exam is very similar to this practice exam but the actual exam is way more brutal. I recommend this book because I consider it a great resource to pass the exam. The book will be helpful but remember, this book should not be any ones only study material. I studied all three of Wasim's books, the Lindeburg review manual, the NCEES practice exam, and the some practice problems from the older version of the FE exam preparation book.

It works - but the laws are not new.

Many moons ago I studied metaphysics. In fact, I had many articles published in numerous publications on such subjects as money and health attraction. But, more to the point, I've used these very methods to attract both health and money into my life.

These truths are ancient. But it is a good idea to renew them and present them again. I remember once that we were taught that cancer patients should not refer to their disease as "my cancer" but "the cancer" . . . in other words, do not make it yours. Do not "own" the cancer.

We bring to ourselves whatever we want. Yes, there are roadblocks in store for us. But all of this works. The mind is extremely powerful. The authors have done a fine job of presenting this subject and showing why and how it works. These are indeed "laws" and they can't be altered.

Most people attract what they don't want. Sometimes it's hard to switch the mind in a new direction. But when we do, it's well worth it.

If you want to turn your life around, I highly recommend this book to you.

The Hicks Did It Again !

I originally discovered the Hicks back in 1985 or so, and found their (Abraham's)message to be one of joy and abundance as the natural way of being. Unlike The Secret and other more recent "abundance/law of attraction" books, this book shares the belief that attracting what you want and being who you want to be is more a matter of getting out of the way than working hard or struggling to "change" your life. As the authors remind us, feeling good and being good is natural and can only attract more good.

The Hicks also remind us that struggle creates more struggle and ease creates more ease. Why struggle to push obstacles out of the way to get what we want, when shifting your point of view just slightly and appreciating the moment and all moments is really the key to achieving your heart's desire.

I agree with a previous reviewer than this book is the best by far in a series of inspiring tapes, CDs and great books by the Hicks.

If you thought Ask & It Is Given was an excellent book, you will think Money, and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Wealth, Health, and Happiness is phenomenal. Ask and It is Given, the first Abraham Series book that I've read, provided a great introduction to the Law of Attraction. Money and The Law of Attraction provides a more in depth discussion of how to attract wealth, health, and overall happiness. It focuses on the importance of pivoting your thoughts from negative to positive ones--not only for the areas that require change in your life, but all of your thoughts. Abraham, the non-physical entity, that narrates the book, emphasizes that there are two sides to every story--one positive side and one negative side. It is important to learn how to view the positive side to every situation. He notes that in order to attract goodness in your life, you must "feel good." Feeling good keeps you in line with your source spirit, "who you really are." Good thoughts attract good thoughts attract good thoughts. And all of this attracts good energy. So it is important that you do and think thoughts that will cause you to feel good all the time. I really don't think I fully comprehended the Law of Attraction until I read this book. When I read Ask and It is Given, I worked on trying to change my negative thoughts to positive ones only on the areas of my life that needed improvement. From this book, I realize how important pivoting, thinking only positive thoughts throughout my day, on every subject and situation I come across, will attract the abundance and happiness that I'm looking for in my life. I've read the book only a week ago, and already, I've noticed results. A close friend of mine commented that I seem to be a much happier person (and this is only after a week). Some doors that were previously closed are opening up in my life. I'm feeling so much more confident about myself and the goodness that continues to come my way.

I've always thought with the self-help books that it's important to not only discuss how great the book is, but also discuss some of the results. Results are really what people want to see when they invest in a self-help book. Below are some of the manifestations that I noticed a day or so after I started implementing pivoting into my life:

RESULTS:

1. I start some side consulting and already have interested clients.
2. I am making significant headway on a small personal goal that required action from others. I thought my success with this goal was out-of-my-hands, but now I see that I'm bringing forth the attraction that is making things happen to my benefit.
3. I'd been trying to open doors to an opportunity for almost a year, and then last week (a couple of days after reading this book and implementing its lessons) I received a phone call that has changed my life.
4. Everyday, I look forward to the wonderful gifts I'm receiving and all it takes is just making sure that I feel good.

What I have done to attract some of these positive things:

1. Before I go to bed and when I wake up in the morning, I speak my positive affirmations that I will make it my priority to feel good.
2. In the mornings (and sometimes in the evenings before I go to bed), I write down all of my happy thoughts, great things that are happening in my life
3. Throughout the day, I play the #1 process game (discussed in Ask and It is Given but I forget the name of the game) where I focus on things in my immediate environment that pleases me. Example: I love the color of that blouse. It reminds me of the color of the dress I wore to my first high school dance. Wasn't that dance the most fun? Etc.
4. When bad thoughts pop up, I tell myself that's not in line with "who I am" and I think about something uplifting.
5. I work on some of the other processes discussed in Ask and It Is Given.
6. I constantly tell myself that I have a gift of thinking good thoughts and bringing happiness into my life.

Once you start implementing the teachings in this book, it really begins to become second nature. And then start noticing the blessings coming forth. I HIGHLY recommend this book.

About the Author

Srinivas Raj Melkote has been a Professor in the fields of media and communication for more than 30 years. Professor Melkote is currently in his 31st year at the School of Media and Communication in Bowling Green State University, Ohio, USA. He has taught at universities in India, US, and Jamaica. He served as a Fulbright Professor at Manipal University in India and is currently a Fulbright Specialist. Professor Melkote has researched and published extensively on a range of issues ranging from the role of communication in directed social change, participatory communication, international communication, health communication, communication strategies for HIV/AIDS prevention, mass communication theory, quantitative research methods, media effects, and communication pedagogy. His book Communication for Development in the Third World: Theory and Practice for Empowerment, 2nd edition (coauthored with Dr Leslie Steeves) is a core text for courses on media and communication in directed social change in colleges around the world. Professor Melkote’s current interests are examining the role of media and communication in achieving empowerment and social justice. His work in social change communication examines the roles of globalization, economics, politics, and hegemonic discourse in sustaining and widening the inequality gaps between people in societies around the world.

H. Leslie Steeves is a Professor and Senior Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon, USA, where she has taught for 27 years. Professor Steeves’ current research centers on two areas and their intersection: communication and information technologies in developing countries (particularly in sub-Saharan Africa) on one hand, and gender and communication on the other. Her recent publications additionally examine entertainment and tourism representations of Africa. Her research has been published in numerous journals, including Journal of Communication; Communication, Culture & Critique; Communication Theory; International Communication Gazette; and Critical�Studies in Media Communication. She is guest editor of a special issue of Communication, Culture & Critique on “Africa the Media and Globalization.” Professor Steeves recently completed a film, Give a Laptop, Change the World: The Story of the OLPC in Ghana (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfVrTSq_iKc). About the Author
Project Director, Interviewer, and Editor Irene Reti directs the Regional History Project at the UC Santa Cruz library, where she has worked as an editor and oral historian since 1989. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a Master’s in History from UC Santa Cruz. Her novel, Kabbalah of Stone, was published in 2010. Interviewer and Editor Sarah Rabkin has taught in UC Santa Cruz’s writing program and environmental studies department for over twenty-five years. She has led an undergraduate seminar for the Program in Community and Agroecology that focuses on concepts of community and agroecology in the context of sustainability. She holds a B.A. in Biology from Harvard University and a graduate certificate in Science Communication from UCSC. Her book of essays, What I Learned at Bug Camp, was published in 2011. Interviewer Ellen Farmer has a B.A. in journalism from San Jose State University and a Master’s in public policy from the Panetta Institute at California State University, Monterey Bay with a specialization in issues in sustainable agriculture, particularly coffee growing. Farmer worked on an interim basis as marketing director for the California Certified Organic Farmers in 2006.

Inspiring stories, important history

This collection of stories of Central Coast farmers is a true gem, an uplifting and fun read. It reveals how everyday folk followed their passion to produce healthy food without chemicals, often at great financial risk, without success stories to boost them in uncertain moments, and always with tons of hard work. What you end up understanding is how they truly were pioneers even though they really didn't know it. All are humble and many laughingly say some version of "We didn't know what we were doing back then!" We owe them our gratitude for their perseverance and the incredible knowledge of the field that has resulted, making organic agriculture viable on a much larger scale and available to many more people. Not to mention all the great food that has been produced! The bigger story that comes through these oral histories is how people do make remarkable changes in the world in humble ways.

A Nourishing Read

"We in the United States are in the early throes of a revolution," writes historian Linda L. Ivey in the foreword to Cultivating a Movement, "a radical change in the way we think about food." The revolution Ivey refers to is the organic farming movement, the biggest change to American agriculture since the adoption of synthetic pesticides and herbicides after World War II. "For this development in our food industry we can thank, in large part a group of revolutionaries from the Central Coast of California."

More than two dozen of those revolutionary farmers were interviewed for this book, a project of the University of California, Santa Cruz' library. Each chapter contains the narrative from one farmer or farm family, and their stories and perspectives are radically different. Some, like Betty Van Dyke, who grew up on her Croatian-American family's orchard in Cupertino in the 1930s were born to the land; others were hippies, like Amigo Bob Cantisano, founding organizer of the Ecological Farming Conference, the West's largest and oldest sustainable agriculture conference, and a descendent of California's earliest Spanish families. Cantisano began growing food in the backyard of a commune in the late 1960s:

"That's when I started doing gardening, because it was like, starvation time, and the Diggers were giving away free food, but the only thing else that was really around was USDA surplus food, which was a bunch of crap...We didn't have any money, so we started gardening, tore up the backyard and started growing stuff, partly because I had a little experience from when I was a kid, and partly because I was just determined to do it. And then there was one other kid who had grown up and lived on a farm...So the two of us ended up being kind of the commune's gardeners."
Oral history is a rich way to gather first-person accounts of any era or place. But we ramble when we talk; interviewers need attention and sensitivity to keep interviews focused and also remain open to potentially valuable digressions. Editors must be able to separate the verbal chaff from the valuable kernels of story while preserving the distinct characteristics of voice and personality. Fortunately for Cultivating a Movement, interviewer-editors Reti and Rabkin, plus interviewer Ellen Farmer, had the deft touch necessary to yield a book of compelling and informative stories.

Like that of Mar�a In�s Catal�n, the first Latina farmworker to own and operate an organic farm in California, and the first in the whole country to operate a CSA, a community-supported agriculture farm. In�s Catal�n was the last of her migrant farmworker family to emigrate from Mexico, arriving two decades ago with four children in tow.

"When I went to learn how to develop a CSA, everything was in English. I went to a conference in San Francisco and we had to sleep in the car. We'd have coffee and a donut all day, because we didn't qualify for the lunches...And I would say, 'All of these things I am going through have to add up to something someday, because this can't all be in vain.' And sure enough, now we have our own CSA. We have it all...Right now we are attending a farmers market in the marketplace in Ferry Plaza [San Francisco], every Saturday. And I'm at the one in Berkeley three times a week. Those are the best markets in the whole country, in the whole country. So, just imagine. But like I say, I didn't get there with just my good looks..."
Cultivating a Movement brings the revolution of organic and sustainable farming alive through the voices of those with dirt under their fingernails as well as those who did the research and crafted the original organic-labeling legislation. It's a satisfying and nourishing read.

This book is great if you want to know about who was involved in starting the organic movement and how it came to be. A good read on the life of each individual farmer and how they came to be in the industry.
