This is a magnficent book

Who is this for?
1. If you are taking an IQ test and need to bone up on your vocabulary for it, then this book is great.
2. If you are one of those people who goes to the dictionary to look up a single word and ends up spending half an hour looking up other words, then this book is great for you.
What does this book have?
1. It is arranged by sections:
a. Words you absolutely should know;
b. Words most people don't know;
c. Words you should know but probably don't;
d. Foreign Idioms You should Know;
e. People and Place Words You Should Know;
f. Words You Should Know to Sound Overeducated;
g. Words You Probably Shouldn't Know.
2. The words have a phonetic spelling in parentheses with the conventional "capital letters for the strong syllable and lowercase letters for the weak."
3. Each word has an example of usage and what part of speech (noun, verb) the word corresponds to. In the event that it is both a noun and a verb, it has examples of both usages.

Very useful

The book is well thought out. It is captivating to compare your knowledge to the book and the many meanings a particular word may or may not have. It clears up misconceptions of unfamiliar vocabulary without a lot of difficulty. The layout of the text is easy to use and one that should be in every household, as well as, dog-eared, highlighted, and underlined. It is a perfect tool for research. Pronunciation, part of speech, and example are excellent features of this book.

LOVE this book.

I have to admit. I feel ignorant after reading this book :)
I've learned so many words, I feel ashamed.
What I like about this book is that it gives you the meaning, pronunciation and proper placement of the word in a sentence.
The book is divided into categories like:
Words you SHOULD already know (very embarrassing), words you NEED to know, words you should know to sound educated, Foreign words and so on....
I have been able to use every word in this book in conversation without hesitation.
I refer back to this book and review it often. It's sad that our vocabularies have dwindled down to elementary school level. So happy I made this purchase. Highly recommend!
